There is a time, between late spring and early summer, when the mountains come to life once more. It is the age-old season of transhumance: a ritual of slow, measured steps, the sound of cowbells, the scent of grass, and stories passed down through the generations. On 23 and 24 May 2026, this tradition will be brought to life once again at the Oasi Zegna with Transumando, now in its 26th year and organised in collaboration with DocBi – Centro Studi Biellese: an event that invites visitors to rediscover the deep bond between people, animals and the local landscape.

More than just an event, Transumando is an immersive experience designed for everyone: from seasoned enthusiasts to families seeking a genuine connection with nature. Two days in which the landscape tells a story, and every step follows the rhythm of an ancient tradition.

The weekend kicks off on Saturday 23 May with ‘Aspettando Transumando’: a taster event featuring talks, walks and opportunities for discovery. With wild herbs to identify, tales of pastoral life and botanical walks, the day will immerse participants in the very essence of the region. There will be plenty of opportunities to delve deeper into the local culture and savour Piedmontese culinary traditions, such as the Merenda Cenoira, in a convivial and authentic atmosphere.

Sunday 24 May will be the highlight of the event, featuring the actual transhumance: three different routes, designed to suit all levels of experience and fitness. A unique opportunity to walk (or cycle) alongside the moving herds, following the paths that lead from the plains up to the mountain pastures, through landscapes of extraordinary beauty. Transumando is an invitation to slow down, to listen, and to experience the mountains mindfully. Full details of the programme, how to take part and updates will be available in the coming days on the Oasi Zegna website.
