Magical encounters can happen in Oasi Zegna’s woodlands because they’re inhabited by animals and other tiny creatures. Conifers and birches that had reached the end of their life cycle have come alive again thanks to their encounter with Max Bove, a sculptor and musician who practices chainsaw carving to transform lifeless tree trunks into sculptures that accompany adults and kids as they tread a path of magic.

This small, enchanted population lives in the Animated Wood (Bosco Animato), which is on the path to Margosio. Along this magical way, you’ll meet squirrels, bears, marmots, owls and fairy-tale creatures, strange encounters enabling you to discover the spirit of the place. Your hearts will be filled with amazement.

The Animated Wood has been a long time in the making. Nearly a century ago, the enlightened entrepreneur Ermenegildo Zegna gave a new lease of life to the barren, over-exploited mountain slopes by planting half a million new trees.

His green thinking lives on today in the Zegna Forest, a grand reforestation project that aims to safeguard this precious environmental heritage. In this context, even trees that reach the end of their life cycle can find a new and magical purpose.

In the vicinity of the Animated Wood you can also enjoy a thirst-quenching break, or even a gastronomic one too, at the Agrichiosco Margosio and the Locanda Argimonia.

Path No. 5 can be taken from Bocchetta di Stavello (below the Santuario di San Bernardo, a stone’s throw from the Crystal Labyrinth) or from Bocchetta Margosio.
